The Sustainability Engineer is responsible for implementing and monitoring Henkel’s environmental initiatives to enable innovative and economical green methods across Henkel facilities in North America. This position would play a key role in developing, driving, evaluating, and executing projects to reduce energy and water usage along with waste generation to help Henkel achieve Sustainability 2030 targets - zero CO2 emission from operations, zero waste water discharge and zero production waste.
·Duties may include project planning, preparation of calculations, feasibility studies and reports, interdisciplinary coordination, management and execution of budget and schedule, management of technical staff members and subconsultants, training & mentoring of junior staff, and client communication
·Serves in a technical leadership role, as a Subject Matter Expert and/or Task Leader and function as the main sustainability point of contact for engineering department
·Prepares and assembles documentation in support of third-party project-specific or programmatic/corporate sustainability and ESG frameworks (e.g., LEED, Envision, GRI, SASB)
·Implements Henkel Adhesive Operations and project-specific engineering procedures in the preparation of drawings, calculations, and other sustainability deliverables
·Provides management, oversight, and mentorship to junior level staff in their performance of technical tasks related to sustainability
·May support North America Henkel Adhesive Operation Sustainability Manager for tasks related to corporate sustainability initiatives, e.g., policy and process development
·Bachelor's degree or above in engineering, or related field with 8+ years of experience, with 5+ focused on project sustainability services in industrial contexts
·Experience preparing engineering project-specific and program-wide sustainability plans
·The successful candidate would be based at our Elgin, IL plant in the US and will be a self-starter, versatile, enthusiastic, and able to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
·Ability to interpret and synthesize information from multiple sources in the context of technical, regulatory, and other requirements
·Ability to manage the demands of multiple projects at various stages simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and collaborate effectively within and outside of the engineering department
·Ability to work in close collaboration with colleagues or autonomously, as needed
·Attention to detail and excellent written and oral communication skills
